چکیده
INTRODUCTION In the first talk of the session, Dr Peter Basser will have introduced the theory of diffusion in biological systems and shown how, in tissue with ordered structure on the length scale of the measurement volume (i.e., voxel), diffusion appears anisotropic. In such cases, the diffusion properties cannot be fully characterized by a scalar value. The next most complex model of diffusion is the diffusion tensor – a 3 x 3 symmetrical positive definite matrix. In this presentation, we will focus on how the diffusion is estimated and how quantitative parameters are derived from the tensor, with focus on obtaining robust values. Pitfalls, artefacts and their remediation will be covered in the talk by Dr Carlo Pierpaoli, while sequences will be covered by Dr Jim Pipe.

A Novel Patch-Based Digital Signature
In this paper a new patch-based digital signature (DS) is proposed. The proposed approach similar to steganography methods hides the secure message in a host image. However, it uses a patch-based key to encode/decode the data like cryptography approaches. Both the host image and key patches are randomly initialized. The proposed approach consists of encoding and decoding algorithms. The encodin...
متن کاملLocal List Recovery of High-Rate Tensor Codes & Applications
In this work, we give the first construction of high-rate locally list-recoverable codes. Listrecovery has been an extremely useful building block in coding theory, and our motivation is to use these codes as such a building block. In particular, our construction gives the first capacity-achieving locally list-decodable codes (over constant-sized alphabet); the first capacity achieving globally...
متن کامل2 Overview: Codes from Other Codes
So far in the course, we have seen three types of codes, summarized as follows: 1. Algebraic Codes • Work for worst-case errors. • Have polynomial time encoding and decoding algorithms 2. LDPCs • Work for worst-case errors as well, but a less many errors (smaller distance) compared to the Algebraic Codes. • Have linear time encoding and decoding algorithms and are simpler. 3. Polar Codes • Work...
متن کاملEncoding and decoding in fMRI
Over the past decade fMRI researchers have developed increasingly sensitive techniques for analyzing the information represented in BOLD activity. The most popular of these techniques is linear classification, a simple technique for decoding information about experimental stimuli or tasks from patterns of activity across an array of voxels. A more recent development is the voxel-based encoding ...
متن کاملTensor Networks and Quantum Error Correction
We establish several relations between quantum error correction (QEC) and tensor network (TN) methods of quantum many-body physics. We exhibit correspondences between well-known families of QEC codes and TNs, and demonstrate a formal equivalence between decoding a QEC code and contracting a TN. We build on this equivalence to propose a new family of quantum codes and decoding algorithms that ge...
